Obituary

Marie F. Magstadt age 82, of Sioux Falls (formerly of Mitchell) died Friday at Good Samaritan Center in Sioux Falls, SD. Graveside services will be 2:00 PM Tuesday at Graceland Cemetery in Mitchell. Marie Fode Magstadt, daughter of Jacob and Fredericka (Walker) Fode, was born February 7, 1922 at Kayler, SD. She grew up in Kayler and Tripp communities graduating from Tripp High School. Following her schooling Marie worked in area businesses before going to work in Rockford, IL. Marie married Roland C. Magstadt on March 20, 1946. She was baptized on April 14th in the First Methodist Church of Tripp, SD. She and her husband farmed in the Tripp and Parkston areas. They then moved to Arizona for a time after selling the farm. They returned to Mitchell for a short time and due to her husbands failing health they moved to Florida. They stayed in Florida for a brief time and then moved back to Mitchell where Marie lost her soul mate, Roland who passed away in 1967. Marie continued on with her life working in Mitchell and Sioux Falls as a bookkeeper, a hostess and a nanny. Marie moved to New Jersey where she took a nanny position for one year. She then moved returned to Sioux Falls where she worked until her retirement in 1999. Marie was a very proud and private lady with a keen sense of humor. She enjoyed card-playing, bird watching and truly loved all aspects of nature. After a short illness, at Good Samaritan Center in Sioux Falls, Marie answered Gods calling to come home. Marie and her contagious laugh will be sadly missed and always remembered by her family. Marie is survived by two sisters, Hildagard Hirsch, Montrose, SD, Edna M. Troth, Salem, OR; her niece and husband, Inez and Roy Laprath, Burbank, SD, and other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
