Marian Prickett, age 108 years, 7 months, and 9 days, passed away on Monday, June 8, 2026, at Firesteel Healthcare Center in Mitchell. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, June 12, 2026, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Mitchell with burial at Holy Trinity Cemetery in Ethan. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.
Marian was a beloved mother, grandmother, great and great-great grandmother.
She was born on October 29, 1917 to Nonie and Anna (Rothschadl) Friedel on a farm near Ethan. Marian attended a country school in Hutchinson County. She married Vernon Prickett in 1935. They lived on a farm for a few years, lived in Ethan for 13 years, and moved to Mitchell in 1950. Marian and Vern had 5 children.
She worked as a waitress and cook at the Nite & Day Cafe and Town House. She then cooked at Holy Spirit School for 20 years. After retiring, Marian was a volunteer at the Avera Hospital for many years. She served as a Eucharistic Minister and was a member of the Moose Lodge, Degree of Honor, and Senior Citizens.
She is survived by three children, Jim Prickett of Minnetonka, MN, Iris Nelson of Rye, New Hampshire, and Charlie Prickett and wife Karen of Mitchell; 24 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; 59 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Nonie and Anna; husband, Vernon Prickett Sr. in 1978; son, Vernon Jr “Sonny” and his wife, Franny; daughter, Mary Ellen Bassett and husband Robert “Bob”; daughter-in-law, Jane Prickett; brother, Francis Freidel; granddaughter, Jeannie Brown; and great grandson, Sam Mellan.
