Marge Krokaugger, 77, of Mitchell, died March 23, at the Avera Queen of Peace Hospital. Services will be held at 2:00 PM Monday at the Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Mitchell. Visitation will be from 6-8 PM Sunday at the Will Funeral Chapel with a prayer service at 7:00 PM. Burial will be at a later date at Lakeview Cemetery at Lake Andes. Marge F. Smith, daughter of Michael and Verna (Mach) Smith, was born July 7, 1927 on a farm in Charles Mix County, SD. She attended country school and then attended high school in Ravinia, SD. Marge later graduated from Wagner High School. Following her schooling she moved to Chicago, IL and was employed at Montgomery Wards for one year. Marge was united in marriage with S.K. Jiggs Krokaugger on August 31, 1946 in Lake Andes, SD. The couple made their home on a farm southwest of Lake Andes for one year. In 1947, the couple moved to Pickstown, SD where Jiggs served as postmaster and Marge served as the postal clerk. She retired from the US Post Office after 25 years of service. After her retirement Marge and Jiggs were employed at South Central Community Development for two years. The couple moved to Armour, SD in 1975 and lived there until Jiggs death in 1978. In 1979 Marge made her home in Mitchell where she could be closer to her daughter. She later moved into her daughters home in 1989 to help raise her grandchildren, Cindy and Bobbie. Marge also served as a caregiver to Ruth Meyer for several years until Ruths death in 1997. On March 26, 2003 she made her home at Avera Brady Assisted Living. She was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church, the Lake Andes VFW Auxiliary and NARFE. Marge was a charter member of Ft. Randall Castle American Legion Auxiliary Post 282. She enjoyed cooking, playing bingo, gardening, crafts, and most of all spending time with her family. Marge loved her cats and traveling. She was an avid fan of Nascar Racing and Pro Bull Riding. Grateful for having shared her life are her two children, Rhonda Broski, Mitchell, SD, Kenneth H. Robinson and his wife, Valery, St. Cloud, MN; six grandchildren; two great grandchildren; a brother Orville Smith and his wife, Faye, Denver, CO; a sister Javone Ehrisman and her husband, Royal, Wagner, SD. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1978; a daughter, Cindy, in infancy in 1954; two brothers, Arthur and Wilbur; and her parents. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established.
