Marge Gere, 75, of Mitchell, died Thursday, December 22, 2005 at the Banner Baywood Hospital in Mesa, Arizona. She died due to complications from lung cancer. Funeral services will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Mitchell, SD on Thursday, December 29, at 11:00 AM. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 PM on Wednesday at the Will Funeral Chapel with a prayer service at 7:00 PM. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery. Marge was born in Mitchell, SD on March 11, 1930 to Edward and Ruth (McDonald) Murphy. She grew up in Mitchell and attended local schools. She was a cheerleader and homecoming queen in high school and graduated in 1948. Marge married Richard (Dick) Gere on June 4, 1949 and they moved to Vermillion, SD where he started medical school. The many years of education had them living in Lincoln, NE, Des Moines, IA, Omaha, NE and South Sioux City, NE. They moved back to Mitchell in 1957 where Dick went into medical practice with the Mitchell Clinic. Marge was involved in many activities and clubs in Mitchell, making friends along the way. She raised their four children in Mitchell. They kept her on her toes and brought the term of Mom to a new level. Something was always happening with one of them. She showed them what unconditional love was all about. She was everything to all people and was a friend to a variety of people from all walks of life. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. After Dicks retirement in 1992, Marge and Dick began spending the winter months at their home in Mesa, Arizona where they both enjoyed the relaxed and warm climate. She is survived by her husband, Dick Gere and her children: Georgeann (Gigi) Wamboldt and husband, Jeff, of Vinita, OK; Greg Gere and wife, Cindy, of Olathe, KS; Gina Laws and her husband, Randy, Mesa, AZ; Gretchen Gere, Mitchell, SD; four grandchildren: Denise Gere, Adam Wamboldt, Kelsey and Jesse Laws and one sister, Darlene Meekins, Prairie Village, KS. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Donald Murphy. Marges passing was lovingly reflected by the following statement made by one of Marges closest friends, A bright light went out and the laughter became quieter.
