Margaret Elizabeth Titus, 100, of Mitchell, SD (formerly of Letcher, SD) died Sunday, March 11, 2012 at Golden Living Center in Salem, SD. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Monday, March 19, 2012 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church with burial at Butler Cemetery, rural Letcher, SD. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 PM Sunday, March 18, 2012 at the Will Funeral Chapel with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 PM. Margaret Elizabeth was born July 9, 1911, to John and Maude (DeVetter) Vermeulen on the family farm near Letcher. She attended Blanchard School in Butler Township. Margaret was united in marriage to Edward Titus on September 27, 1932. Margaret attended St. Scholastica Church in Letcher, SD, where Margaret was baptized, confirmed and married. She was an active member in the Altar Rosary Society for many years. The couple farmed in Sanborn County until moving to Mitchell in 1984. Margaret enjoyed playing cards at the Senior Center in Mitchell. She was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church. Edward died in 1986. Margaret continued to live in Mitchell. She lived next door to her brother Raphael at the Super Center Apartments until he moved. Then she moved into the Autumn Crest Apartments where she lived close to her sister Tootie. Margaret was grateful for her five children: daughter Doris and husband Marvin Brown, Kewanee, IL, son Jim deceased at age 15 due to an auto accident, son Bob deceased and wife Mary Ann, Sioux Falls, SD, daughter Beverly and husband Gary Riecke, Lincoln, NE, daughter Mary Beth and husband Phil Kallaugher, Rocky Hill, CT. Margaret has 16 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren, 16 great great grandchildren. She has two sisters-in-law, Wilma Aulner and Dessa White. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward; two sons, Jim and Bob; four brothers, Raphael, Bernard, Donnie and Robert in infancy; two sisters, Sylvia Morgan and Teresa Gere.
