Margaret Smith age 95, of Mitchell, formerly of Alexandria, SD died Tuesday, July 5, 2011 at Avera Brady Health and Rehab. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Saturday, July 9, at St. Mary of Mercy Catholic Church in Alexandria with burial at St. Mary of Mercy Cemetery in Alexandria. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 PM Friday at St. Mary of Mercy Catholic Church with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 PM. Arrangements are under the direction of the Will Funeral Chapel. Margaret Anna (Endres) Smith, was born in Ethan, SD on February 6, 1916, to Frank and Josephine (Hohn) Endres. She married the love of her life, George A. Smith, in Ethan on November 23, 1932. They lived in Ethan and Mitchell before moving to Alexandria in 1946 where George managed and later owned Alexandria Grain and Oil. George passed away in 1987 and Margaret remained in Alexandria until 2006 when she moved to Avera Brady Assisted Living Home in Mitchell. Margaret was a kind, patient and gentle woman who loved her God and her family. She was a prayer warrior who embraced and lived her Catholic faith. She had a special devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Rosary. She was a member of the Sacred Heart League. She was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great grandmother who was always happiest when surrounded by her family. She especially cherished the big family get-togethers. Margaret enjoyed babysitting the grandchildren when they were little and attending all their events, especially sports, as they grew up. She loved dancing, baking, crocheting, doing crosswords, bowling, writing, listening to her favorite music and visiting with family and friends. Margaret loved animals, especially her cats. Margaret is survived by four daughters and three sons, Patricia (Dale) Schroeder, Janice Schoenfelder, Jon (Kaye) Smith, Fred (Karen) Smith and Camille (Jim) Davies, all of Alexandria; Thomas (Kori) Smith, Cleveland, OH and JoNell (Jim) Jarding of Sioux Falls, SD; 19 grandchildren; 41 great grandchildren; 6 great great grandchildren and a special nephew, Gary Riecke, Lincoln, NE. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, 2 sisters, Lorraine Endres and Celestine Riecke; special cousin, Vilas (Doc) Endres, son-in-law, Edwin (Bud) Schoenfelder and a granddaughter-in-law, Denise Schroeder. Mom, you were truly a blessing to all of us. We thank you for all your prayers, sacrifices and unconditional love. We miss you!!
