Obituary

Margaret McBrayer, 79, of Miatchell, died November 25, at Avera McKennan Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Monday at Holy Family Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 3 PM-8 PM Sunday at the Will Funeral Chapel with the family present from 3PM to 6 PM. There will be a prayer service at 5 PM followed by a Rosary. Burial will be in Holy Trinity Cemetery at Ethan. Margaret McBrayer was born on August 31, 1926 on the family farm in rural White Lake to Mike and Teresa (Morath) Hoffman. She grew up in rural White Lake, attended country school, and later worked in Mitchell. She was united in marriage with Melvin McBrayer on November 3, 1949 in Mitchell. The couple made their homes in Sioux City, Iowa and Stickney, South Dakota for most of their lives. She moved to Mitchell in 1993. Margaret enjoyed embroidering, working puzzles and spending time with her family. She enjoyed visiting with her friends. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church; and was a former member of St. Marys Catholic church in Stickney where she taught Catechism and served on the Altar Society and funeral committee. She belonged to the Parkinson Group in Mitchell and the Diabetic Support Group. Grateful for having shared her life are her children: Marilyn Gunnare and her husband, Larry, Mitchell, SD; Larry McBrayer, San Diego, CA; Linda McBrayer, Pierre, SD; Rita Doerr and her husband, Rick, Rapid City, SD; Kathy Remund, Huron, SD; Martha Kethman and her husband, Jim, Sheridan, WY; Karen Plooster, Sioux Falls, SD; Joan McBrayer, Albuquerque, NM; a daughter-in-law, Carrie McBrayer, Parkston; 20 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren, Emmala, Andrew and Abraham Gunnare and Kayleigh Margaret Royston; a sister, Florence Nelsen and her husband Bob, Stickney, SD; and two brothers, Clarence Hoffman and his wife, Wanda, and Don Hoffman, all of Stickney, SD. She was preceded in death by her husband on February 27, 2002; two sons, Curtis in 1967 and David in 1985; a daughter, Vicky in 1959; brother, Raymond; an infant brother, Joseph; two sisters-in-law, Norma Hoffman and Jeri Hutchinson and a son-in-law, Andy Bernard in 1986.
