Margaret J. Maiers age 91 of Mitchell, (formerly of Alexandria) died Thursday, March 31, 2011 at Avera Brady Health and Rehab. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Monday, April 4, 2011 at St. Mary of Mercy Catholic Church in Alexandria with burial at St. Mary of Mercy Cemetery. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the services Monday at St. Mary of Mercy Catholic Church in Alexandria, SD. Margaret was born on February 19, 1920 in Mitchell, SD to Henry and Margaret (Lucas) Geppert. She attended country school through the eight grades. She started working at JC Penny's in Chamberlain prior to her marriage. She was united in marriage to Robert "Hank" Maiers on November 28, 1945 in Kimball, SD. The couple farmed in the Kimball and Alexandria area from 1946 to 1969. Margaret then worked as a janitor for the Hanson High School from 1969 to 1989. She was a member of St. Mary of Mercy Catholic Church and St. Mary's Sacred Heart League. Grateful for sharing her life are her five sons; Robert and wife Susan Maiers of Austin, TX, Gary and wife Patty Maiers of Phoenix, Az, Dennis and wife Marcia Maiers of Alexandria, SD, Rodney Maiers of Sioux Falls, SD and Kevin and wife Mary Jane Maiers of Flandreau, SD; 9 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; sister Dorothy Urban of Kimball, SD; two brothers Bill Geppert of Alexandria, SD and Leonard Geppert of Kimball, SD; two sisters in law: Ruth Geppert of White Lake, SD. and Vi Moore of Mitchell, SD. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; four sisters and three brothers.
