Margaret Mary Lester was born on May 27, 1910 to John and Maude (Crane) Condran. She was second oldest of nine children and spent her entire life in Mitchell. She graduated from Notre Dame Academy in 1928 and also boarded at school. She did one year of junior college and worked at Ethan Telephone Company for two years. She married Ralph A. Lester on January 10, 1936 in Mitchell. Margaret was very active in helping and teaching Dale Carnegie courses after taking the course. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters, Altar Society, and Degree of Honor. She was a member of the St. Joseph Hospital Auxiliary where she volunteered as a surgery hostess and delivered mail and snacks for many years. She had to retire when she was 85 due to her failing eyesight. Her husband, Ralph passed away in 1952, so she raised her two children alone while working at Scotts Vallet Cleaners and later at Palace Cleaners. She lived at Meadowlawn when it opened until 1991 when she moved to the Brady Home. Margaret can be remembered at Meadowlawn for either selling eggs, going with her grocery cart to Randalls for groceries or also doing someones wash. She could also be seen taking her daily mile walk. She is survived by her daughter, Wardenne and husband Bob Volmer, Norfolk, NE; four grandchildren, Deb, Lori, Bob Jr and Kathy; ten great grandchildren, two sisters: Frances and Dorothy of San Francisco, CA and a brother Jack, of Nevada. She was preceded in death by her husband, her son, JC, and grandson Scott, both in 1999, and her other sisters and brothers.
