Obituary

Margaret Amelia Schroeder was born December 4, 1924 in White Lake, SD, to Fred and Meta (Dethlefson) Schroeder.  She grew up on their family farm near White Lake, attended grade school there, and graduated from Mitchell High School.  After graduating she traveled by train to Washington State with her father and they worked in a factory there for a time to "support the war effort."

On February 10, 1945, she and Paul Everson went to Huron and were married in the park.  They loved to dance and play cards with family and friends and celebrated 69 years together before Paul passed away in 2014.  They farmed north of Mitchell until 1969 when they moved into Mitchell and she worked at the J.C. Penney store.  They later moved to Yankton where they ran a gas station and she worked at the Yankton Daily Press & Dakotan newspaper in the classified department.  After selling the gas station they moved to Vermillion and she worked at the Student Union on the USD campus, and then moved back to Mitchell after they retired.   They purchased a home from her aunt Dorothy Clark, which they renovated and lived in until she and Paul moved to Firesteel Healthcare Center in 2010.

Margaret loved being around young people and at every chance would have grandchildren stay with them.  Special thanks to Mom and Dad for wonderful visits the grandchildren had with them…..these memories they'll have forever.

Grateful for sharing her life are their five children, sons Verle (Carol) Everson of White Lake, SD, Rodney (Kay) Everson of Black Hawk, SD, and John Everson of Texas; daughters Velda (Daryl) Kilstrom and Linda Perkins of Mitchell, 12 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, great-granddaughter Emily Everson, brothers Alvin "Bud" Schroeder, Dale Schroeder, and Wayne Schroeder; sisters Dorothy Zapor and Evelyn Larson; brothers-in-law Ed Zapor, John Larson, Carl and DeLos Everson; and sisters-in-law Delores and Pat Schroeder.
