Marcene Gedstad, 92, passed away Thursday, April 18, 2024 at the Good Samaritan Society in Canistota, SD. A funeral service will be at 11:00 AM Friday, April 26, 2024 at Will Funeral Chapel. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM Friday, April 26, 2024 at Will Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in the West Prairie Lutheran Cemetery in rural Lennox, SD at a later date.

Marcene was born on January 31, 1932 in Davis, SD on the family farm to Harm and Lena Smit. She attended country school in Davis and graduated from Hurley High School. Marcene then went on to receive her teaching certificate and taught school for a short time.

On August, 10, 1954 Marcene married Glen Gedstad; the couple live in Sioux Falls until 1971 when they moved to Mitchell. After Glen's retirement in 1991 they moved to Lennox, SD. Marcene remained in Lennox for a short time after Glen's death before moving to her home in Mitchell.

Marcene enjoyed gardening, raising flowers, playing the piano and was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Mitchell.

Grateful for having shared her life are her son; Jon (Karen) Gedstad of Mitchell, grandchild; Madeaya (Jacob) Myers of Kaukauna, WI, great grandchild; Marnie Myers, as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Glen on May 5, 1994, her parents, two brothers, George and Willard Smit, two sisters, Florence Wrage and Maggie Peterson.
