October 21, 1916 – January 6, 2009
Mae Elizabeth Wieland, age 92, died peacefully in her sleep, on January 6, 2009 at Holy Rosary Medical Center in Miles City, MT following a brief illness. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Tuesday at St. Mary's Episcopal Church with burial at Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM Monday at the Will Funeral Chapel with a prayer service beginning at 8:00 PM.
Mae was born October 21, 1916 at Red Lake Falls, MN, to William and Mamie vonKienast. In 1928 she moved to Mitchell, SD with her family where her father entered the Insurance Business. Mae graduated from Mitchell High School in 1934 and worked for the National Life Insurance Company in Mitchell and Sioux Falls for 28 years, at which time she retired. On June 26, 1949 she was united in marriage with Bob Wieland of Delmont, SD in Mitchell, SD. They spent the rest of their lives in Mitchell as well as many winters at their condominium in Clearwater, FL.
Mae was a long time member of St. Mary's Episcopal Church, having served on the Vestry and other committees over the years. She was also a Board Member of The Enchanted World Doll Museum for 25 years, having been one of the original Board Members.
Mae is survived by one sister, Doris K. Uden, Miles City, MT; six nephews, Jim Farley, Seneca, SC, John Uden, Miles City, MT, Tom vonKienast, Hayden, ID, Jeff vonKienast, White City, OR, Jack DeRosier, John Day, OR, Bruce DeRosier, Bend, OR; one niece, Jane Pruitt, Wagoner, OK.
Mae was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bob Wieland in 1980; one sister, Ruby K. Morse in 1993; a brother, William A. vonKienast in 2003.
