Madge was born September 6, 1913 at Mason City, IA to Frank and Edith (Slack) Burns.
In October 1922 her stepfather moved the family to Mitchell, where she attended school, graduating in 1933.
In September 1943 she moved to Rapid City, working at the airbase until enrolling in Greenes Beauty School in 1945. After graduation she was employed at Greenes Beauty Shop and later became an instructor in the school. After returning to Mitchell she was employed by Mitchell Publishing and Herters.
In April 1948 she was united in marriage with Edmund Boik in Rapid City. They moved to Hot Springs in 1949 and returned to Mitchell in 1950 when Ed was recalled to go to Korea.
She was a member of Holy Spirit Church and Altar Society, Catholic Daughters of America, American Legion Auxiliary, 8 & 40 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary.
Grateful for sharing her life are her daughter Sue Wermers and husband Mike of Mitchell, two grandsons: Dusty Wermers of Lakeville, MN and Darin Wermers of Los Angeles, CA; sister Jean Muck of Mitchell, two brothers: Kenneth Maakestad and wife Mardella of Sturgis and Stanley Maakestad of Woonsocket; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister, sister in-law, two brother in-laws and two nephews.
