Mabel Louise McEntee, age 100, 1 month, 1 day, of Mitchell, SD died Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at Firesteel Healthcare Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church with burial at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Monday, December 1, 2014 at the Will Funeral Chapel with a rosary followed by a prayer service beginning at 7:00 PM.
Mabel Louise McEntee, daughter of Erick and Antonia (Uischner) Lindblad, was born October 25, 1914 in Mitchell, SD. She attended school in Mitchell and graduated from Mitchell High School in 1932. Mabel then received her two year Teaching Certificate from Dakota Wesleyan University. She taught country school at Prosper Center Country School for one year.
Mabel was united in marriage with Lawrence McEntee on April 27, 1935 in Woonsocket, SD. The couple farmed south of Mitchell from 1935 to 1965. In 1965 the couple moved to Mitchell. While in Mitchell, Mabel was employed at the Shamrock Inn, Bennetts Market and at the County Fair Bakery until she was 85 years old. In April of 2010, Mabel became a resident at Firesteel Healthcare Center.
She enjoyed music, dancing, gardening, and playing cards. Mabel loved animals and while on the farm was always willing to accept all strays, even stray kids.
She was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church and was active in the altar society and Catholic Daughters.
Survivors include her four children, Richard "Dick" (Shirley) McEntee, Mitchell, SD, Carole (Bill) Davis, Huron, SD, Janis McEntee, Sioux Falls, SD and Stephan McEntee, Mitchell, SD; ten grandchildren; twenty nine great grandchildren; thirteen great great grandchildren; two sisters, Florence Stechmann, Mitchell, SD and Bernice McKillip, Dexter, MO; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence in 1984; a daughter, Delores "Tooty" Gossman; a son in infancy, James Erick McEntee; a brother, Albin Lindblad and a sister, Esther Thurman.
