Lyle W. Laberee, age 76, of Mitchell, formerly of Lake Andes, died November 3, 2004 at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Friday at the First United Methodist Church in Mitchell. Visitation will be from 6-8 PM Thursday, at the Will Funeral Chapel with Masonic and Eastern Star Rites at 7 PM. Burial will be at 3:00 PM at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Estelline, SD. Lyle was born December 26, 1927 at Estelline, SD to George and Elsie (Boone) Laberee. He graduated from South Dakota State University with a BS degree in Agronomy. He farmed while attending college. He served in the US Army from June, 1954 to May, 1956 and was discharged as a First Lieutenant. Lyle married June Owens, June 10, 1951. She died in July, 1977. He married Norma Peshek Johnson on March 22, 1978. He retired from Soil Conservation Service on March 30, 1984 and worked as manager of the Southern Missouri Water Development until 1994. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Masonic Lodge, Shriners, NARFE, American Legion and the Corn Palace Shrine Club and was a charter member of Ducks Unlimited. He loved to hunt and fish. He is survived by his wife, Norma; daughter, Elizabeth Laberee and her husband, Arthur DeCillis, Madison, CT; step-children: Alan Johnson, Des Moines, IA, Jerry Johnson and wife, Gwen, Waukee, IA, Sherry Barns and husband, Steve, Rapid City, Roy Johnson and wife, Bobbi, Mitchell, and Gail Myers and husband, Terry, Springfield, SD; one grandchild, Mark, eight step grandchildren and four step great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, June; an infant daughter, Ann Ellyn, and a brother, Wayne. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials.
