Lydia A. Orth, age 99, of Mitchell, SD (formerly of Alpena, SD) died Wednesday, May 5, 2010 at Firesteel Healthcare Center. Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Saturday May 8, 2010 at the Congregational UCC Church in Huron, SD with burial at Rest Haven Cemetery in Alpena, SD. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Friday at the Will Funeral Chapel with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 PM.

Lydia A. Beiswanger, daughter of John and Philomera (Miller) Beiswanger, was born June 13, 1910 in Parkston, SD. She grew up and attended school in Parkston, SD. After her schooling, Lydia worked at various jobs in Mitchell and Parkston.

Lydia was united in marriage with Almond Orth on June 30, 1941 at Huntington, NE. The couple farmed west of Alpena, SD and Lydia continued to live there until 2005. In 2005, she moved to Meadowlawn Plaza in Mitchell.

She was a member of the Congregational UCC Church in Huron and was active in the womens group at the church. Lydia enjoyed gardening, raising flowers (especially hollyhocks) and doing crafts.

Grateful for having shared her life are her two nieces, Darlene (Darwin) Peterson, Alexandria, SD, Irene (Bernard) Olinger, a nephew, Ronald (Sharon) Goergen, Woonsocket, SD, other nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Almond in 1986; her parents; and 12 siblings.

In lieu of flowers memorial may be directed to a charity of the donors choice.
