Luvern "Buddy" Neugebauer, age 81, of Ethan, SD died Sunday, November 13, 2016 at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital in Mitchell, SD. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 AM Thursday, November 17, 2016 at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Dimock, SD. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 PM at the church with a prayer service beginning at 7 PM. Burial will be at SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery.
Luvern C. Neugebauer was born May 8, 1935 in Starr Twp Hutchinson County, SD to Edward and Clara (Luebke) Neugebauer. His mother died at a young age and he was raised by his uncle Ernest and aunt Paulina Misterek. Luvern attended country school and Ethan Schools; he rode a horse to country school and then drove his first car, 1932 Chevy. He started farming at an early age; he volunteered for the service in September of 1957 and served in France. After serving in the US Army he returned home to the farm and married Elaine Erpenbach on August 26, 1961 at Epiphany, SD. Luvern farmed with his three boys and his two daughters also farmed which gave him great pride.
Luvern loved to travel with his wife and in the spring of 2015, they had the opportunity to see the Pope in Italy. He enjoyed woodworking, making plexi-glass display cases for all his grandchildren's trophies and projects and he was an avid gardener. He loved polka music, and in fact listening to Big Joe Polka every Friday at 4:00 PM. After following his own children, he thoroughly enjoyed attending all activities of his grandchildren.
He was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and the Ethan American Legion, served the Rome Twp. Board for 51 years, Ethan Co-op Lumber Board for 21 years, Ethan Rural Fire Board for 8 years, Farm Bureau Officer and a member of the Stock Growers Assn.
Grateful for sharing his life are his wife Elaine of Ethan; children Norman (Lisa) Neugebauer of Mitchell, SD, Linda (Eugene) Cap of Tripp, SD, Edward (Lisa) Neugebauer of Mitchell, SD, Mary (Melvin) Cap of Scotland, SD and Tim (Nicole) Neugebauer of Ethan, SD; eleven grandchildren, three great grandchildren; brother Vernon (LaVerna) Neugebauer of Mitchell, SD; sisters-in-law Nelda Neugebauer of Mitchell, SD, Theresa (Dick Fehr) Erpenbach Norwood Young America, MN, Joyce Christensen, Pat (Bill) Walz, , Pat Erpenbach, all of Sioux Falls, SD, Connie (Jerry) Kurth, Bridgewater, SD, Darlene (Dick) Muth, Mitchell, SD; brothers-in-law, Jim (Joan) Erpenbach, Nevada, MO, Anthony (Joyce) Erpenbach, Plankinton, SD, Joe (Barb) Erpenbach, Howard, SD.
Preceded in death by his parents; aunt and uncle Ernest and Paulina Misterek; brothers Wilfred and Elaine, Ray, Everett and Anitta, Lewis and Jennetta; sisters Lona, an infant baby; brothers-in-law John Erpenbach, Allan Erpenbach, Dick Christensen; and his in-laws, Anthony and Katherine Erpenbach.
