Luella May Range, age 96, of Mitchell, SD died Wednesday, June 26, 2019 at Avera Brady Health and Rehab. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Monday, July 1, 2019 at the Mitchell United Methodist Church, Mitchell, SD with burial at Servicemen's Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM Monday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Will Funeral Chapel.

Luella May Range, daughter of William Harry Briggs and Mildred (Falor) Briggs, was born on the family farm in rural White Lake, SD. She attended Patton School and graduated from White Lake High School. Luella attended Dakota Wesleyan University for two years and received her teaching certificate. She then began teaching at country schools including north of Plankinton, SD.

Luella was united in marriage with Raymond Range on May 23, 1947 in Mitchell, SD. The couple lived on a farm NW of White Lake, SD while Luella taught country school near their farm. The family moved to Derby, CO where Luella continued to teach in Aurora, CO. They returned to South Dakota and Luella taught at Pleasant Lake School south of Plankinton. Later moving to Ft. Pierre, SD and she taught there. They then moved to Mitchell and Luella taught at areas schools including Ethan, Hanson and rural Kimball, and was a school librarian in Lake Andes, SD.

In the mid 1960's she received her Bachelors Degree from Dakota Wesleyan University and later her Master Degree from the University of South Dakota. Luella retired from teaching in 1983.

She enjoyed genealogy, reading, puzzles, traveling and being involved in the historical society.

Luella was a member of the Mitchell United Methodist Church and was involved in church circle. She was also a member of the Rebekkah Club and Delta Kappa Gamma.

Grateful for having shared her life are her two sons, Dwayne (Pam) Range, Mitchell, SD, Melford Range, Mitchell, SD; three grandchildren, Heath, Lee and Clint (Kelsey); four great grandchildren, Precious, Cody, Cameron and Oliver; a great great granddaughter, Indicia; two brothers, Thomas Jacob (Joan) Briggs, Alcester, SD and William Grant (Gayleen) Briggs, Richfield, MN; a sister, Vivian Hoffman, Commerce City, CO.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Range on 7/28/1995; her parents; two sisters, Jane and Sharon; four brothers, Ted, Homer, Elmer and Dale.
