Lucille J. Thrift, age 89, of Mitchell, SD died Thursday, October 31, 2013 at Avera Brady Health and Rehab. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at Will Funeral Chapel with burial at Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the Will Funeral Chapel. Lucille Thrift, daughter of Guy and Gussie (Bower) Thrift, was born on the family farm in Loomis, SD. She grew up and attended grade school in Loomis, SD. Lucille graduated from Mitchell High School in 1942. After her schooling, Lucille worked at Phinney's General Store in Loomis and at the Defense Plant in Mitchell. She moved to Mitchell in 1968 where Lucille was employed as a bookkeeper at Rozum Motors, United Auto Parts and Auto Electric. Later she worked part time at the Mitchell Daily Republic. In her retirement she lived at Crystal Manor and then later at Avera Brady Health and Rehab. She enjoyed bowling, reading, playing bingo and attending music programs in Mitchell. Lucille was an active member of the Loomis Congregational Church in Loomis. At the church she taught Sunday school and served as the church treasurer for 40 years. Survivors include three nieces, Beverly (Terry) Jorgenson, Kasson, MN, Barbara (Jim) Haar, Rapid City, SD, Betty (Randall) Stuefen, Vermillion, SD; one nephew, Keith (Mary) Thrift, Bridgewater, SD; several great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews. Lucille was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Thurman Thrift; two sisters, Minerva Watkins and Ethel Ardel Thrift. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Loomis Congregational Church.
