Obituary

Loris Jean Doorn, 89, of Mitchell, SD passed away Saturday, October 31, 2020 at Avera McKenna Hospital in Sioux Falls. Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM Friday, November 6, 2020 at the First Reformed Church in Mitchell. Visitation will be from 5:00 until 7:00 PM Thursday, November 5, 2020 at Will Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in American Legion Cemetery.

Loris was born January 25, 1931 to Lawrence and Katherine Ketel in Mitchell, SD. She graduated from Stickney High School and went onto Southern State College in Springfield, SD to receive her teaching certificate.

On June 1, 1951 Loris married Dean Doorn at the First Reformed Church in Harrison, SD. They celebrated 63 years of marriage and to this union 6 children were born. They ran a family owned trucking business for many years. Loris was also employed as a country school teacher, bookkeeper, and CNA. She was a member of the First Reformed Church, active in women's circle at church, the Corsica Priscilla Club, the Extension Club and book club with her friends. She enjoyed reading, gardening, cooking, playing cards, following her family's activities, traveling, camping and snowmobiling in the Black Hills. Some of her greatest pleasures in life were the camping trips with her family, the trip to Europe in 1985, and most of all sharing in the lives of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She lovingly sent cards with a special note to all her family members for birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, graduations, and any special event.

Blessed to have shared her love and life are her children; Pat (Leon) Reiner, Tripp, SD, Robyn (Blaine) Duxbury, Vermillion, SD, David (Lisa) Doorn, Pinedale, WY, Brad (Kristen) Doorn, York, PA, and Bryan (Jenna) Doorn, Mitchell, SD, daughter-in-law, Barb Doorn, Vermillion, SD, brothers; Leroy (Jody) Ketel and Kenneth (Diane) Ketel both from Rapid City, SD, brothers-in-law; Gary (Lonni) Doorn, Meridian, ID and Edd (Dawn) Doorn, Bend, OR, 16 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews.

Loris was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and his parents, Ed and Minnie (Beukelman) Doorn, an infant sister, Marilyn, her sister, Karen (Carroll) Nelson and her son, Doug Doorn.
