Lori Joachim age 56, of Mt. Vernon, SD died Thursday, February 16, 2017 at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Thursday, February 23, 2017 at the Will Funeral Chapel. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 PM Wednesday, February 22, 2107 at the Will Funeral Chapel. Burial will be at a later date.

Esther Lori Joachim was born May 14, 1960 in DeWitt, IA to Earl Henry and Mary Ellen (Willet) Stalkfleet. She grew up mostly in Iowa until High School in Sioux Falls, SD. In her 20's she began taking night classes at a trade school for Computer Sciences and Administrative Studies.

On August 31, 1989, she gave birth to a daughter, Jennifer Michelle, from her first marriage. In the late 1990's, she met the love of her life, John Joachim. They were married May 16, 2002, in Las Vegas, NV. As a family, the 3 of them resided in Mitchell, SD until John and Lori purchased a house in Mt. Vernon, SD in 2005.

Lori's life was forever changed when in early 2012; she was diagnosed with kidney cancer. Through aggressive treatments and surgeries, Lori beat cancer twice. She was a fighter who stayed positive through the worst of times. She will be forever remembered for her strength.

Lori was an extremely passionate person with a huge love for animals. Throughout her life, she's owned and loved many fur babies. She will be deeply missed by Baxter, her 7 year old Maltipoo and Josie, her Jack Russell terrier mix. As well as by her furry grand babies Zeke, a 2 year old miniature Schnauzer and Maddie, a 2 year old miniature Schnoodle.

Lori was very loved and will be deeply missed by her husband John Joachim of Mt. Vernon; daughter Jennifer Altman of Sioux Falls, SD; step-daughter Jennifer (Bret) Christianson of Brookings, SD; step-granddaughter Tehra Christianson of Brookings, SD; sister Kimberly (Keith) Uptain of Las Vegas, NV and brother Earl (Mary) Stalkfleet Sr. of Deer Park, TX.

Lori was preceded in death by her brother William Paul Stalkfleet (1958), her father Earl Henry Stalkfleet (1998), and her mother Mary Ellen (Willet) Stalkfleet (2000).
