Loretta I. Descombaz, age 82, of Mt. Vernon, SD died Tuesday, August 6, 2024 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Monday, August 12, 2024 at the Will Funeral Chapel with burial at the Mt. Vernon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM Monday, August 12, 2024 at the Will Funeral Chapel.

Loretta I. Descombaz, daughter of Elmer and Marie (Blume) Beiswanger, was born September 19, 1941 in Parkston, SD. She grew up on the family farm west of Parkston and attended country school. After her father's death the family moved into Parkston. Loretta attended school there and later graduated from Parkston High School. She then attended St. Joseph School of Nursing in Mitchell.  Loretta began her nursing career at the hospital in Parkston.

Loretta was united in marriage with Jerome Descombaz on November 26, 1966 in Parkston, SD. After their marriage Loretta was employed as a nurse at the hospital in Yankton, SD before moving to the Twin Cities where she continued to nurse.  The couple moved back to Mitchell and Loretta was employed at Firesteel Healthcare as a nurse. She retired after 40 years of nursing.

In her retirement she enjoyed knitting, crocheting and playing cards (especially Pinochle). Loretta was as a member of the Mt. Vernon Senior Citizens Center and loved attending DWU Basketball games.

Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Jerome Descombaz, Mt. Vernon, SD; three daughters, Darla Jones, the Twin Cities, MN, Sandra Miller, Hudson, WI, Barbara (Bob) Beil, Hudson, WI; five grandchildren; four great grandchildren; several nieces and a nephew.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and three brothers, Melvin, Johnnie and Kenny.
