Lois McDaniel, age 85, of Mitchell, SD died Sunday April 12, 2009 at Avera Brady Health and Rehab. Memorial services will be 10:00 AM Saturday at the First United Methodist Church with burial at the American Legion Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM Saturday at the First United Methodist Church.
Lois Moncur, daughter of Charles and Ethel (Blachford) Moncur, was born on March 3, 1924 on the homestead NW of Miller, SD. She attended country school for eight years and then graduated from Miller High School. In 1942, Lois received her 2nd Grade Teachers Degree from General Beadle Teachers College in Madison, SD.
Lois was united in marriage with Donald F. McDaniel on March 17, 1945 in Miller, SD. The couple made their home in Mitchell, SD. Lois was a nurses aide on the night shift for 18 years at St. Joseph and Avera Queen of Peace Hospital. She then moved on and served lunches at Gertie Belle Rogers Grade School for 10 years. She was an active member of Curves and was noted in paper as the oldest member. She made her home at Avera Brady Health and Rehab in October 2008 after living 57 years at her home in Mitchell, SD.
Lois was a member of First United Methodist Church and was involved in Sunday School classes for two and three year olds. Her greatest pleasures in life were her family and friends.
Grateful for having shared her life are her children, Larry (Bette) McDaniel, Boulder, CO, Joyce (Don) Arndt, Westminister, CO, Wayne (Cindy) McDaniel, Sioux Center, IA, Cindy (Bill) Desy, Lennox, SD, Rex (Perky) McDaniel, Rochester, NY, Keith (Becky) McDaniel, North Platte, NE; 16 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandson; a brother, Eugene (Janice) Moncur, Miller, SD; sister-in-law, Della Moncur, Miller, SD; numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald McDaniel on May 27, 1974; her parents; a granddaughter, Brenda McDaniel; and three brothers, Harold, Ray and Homer Moncur.
