Lloyd John Thome, age 90 of Mitchell, SD died Tuesday, April 14, 2015 at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM Saturday, April 18, 2015 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church with burial at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Friday at the Will Funeral Chapel with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 PM. Lloyd John Thome, son of Joe and Francis (Goergen) Thome, was born June 23, 1924 in Woonsocket, SD. He grew up on a farm midway between Lane, SD and Plankinton, SD. Lloyd was united in marriage with Madonna Kurtenbach. The couple lived in Mitchell, SD where Lloyd was employed by the City of Mitchell in the Sanitation Department. In his retirement, the couple ran a campground in Mitchell. He was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church and a former member of the Moose Lodge. Lloyd enjoyed auction sales, rummage sales and tinkering. Grateful for having shared his life are his two grandchildren, Jenny Wendelboe, Madison, SD and Pete Wendelboe, Dimock, SD; four great grandchildren, Colten and Peter John Jr. Wendelboe and Corbin and Emma Hill, all of Dimock, SD; two sisters, Betty Hoffman, Mitchell, SD and Delores (Martin) Schoenfelder, Plankinton, SD; many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Madonna Thome in 1999; a son in infancy, Teddy Joe; and a daughter, Johnna Wendelboe.
