L ila G. Anderson was born on January 29, 1923 to Charley and Emma (Tuen) Torgerson in Yankton, SD. She was baptized into the Lutheran faith in June of 1923, and raised on a farm near Yankton until the spring of 1928 when they moved to a farm near Forestburg. Lila's confirmation was in the Forestburg Lutheran Church on November 12, 1939. She graduated from Forestburg High School in 1940.
Lila married George J. Jarabek on March 28, 1942, and they lived in Cleveland, Mitchell, Los Angeles. The couple then made their home in Letcher where they remodeled and built many new homes together in the Mitchell area, the drive-in movie theater, and Twin Lakes Resort near Woonsocket. Lila helped manage the resort for five years. George passed away in 1971 and Lila moved to Mitchell. She was a librarian at the Mitchell Public Library for 14 years and married Andy Anderson on November 5, 1985. A special remembrance for Lila was their vacation to Florida with Johhny and Irene before Andy suddenly passed away in 1988.
Lila was a member of First Lutheran Church and later a charter member of Resurrection Lutheran Church, the Moose Lodge, Senior Citizens and their bowling league. She loved music and dancing with family and friends; playing the keyboard with her friend, Walt Grasser, playing the harmonica, for healthcare centers and a the Veterans Administration in Sioux Falls; playing cards; bowling; having exciting rides on a jet ski and motor boat; enjoying pontoon rides around Lake Mitchell; and holidays, birthdays, and many special times with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. A highlight of Lila's was a hot-air balloon ride with a family picnic given to her for her 75 th birthday.
God blessed George and Lila with four children: Ronnie Jarabek (died at almost 2 months), LaVoy Gerlach, Mitchell; Judy (Tim McLaughlin) Cass, Sioux Falls; Jerry Jarabek, Omaha, NE; seven grandchildren, Joni (Dan) Wagner, Salem; Jason (Cathy) Cass, Half Moon, NY; Michael (Tarilynn) Gerlach, Mitchell; Kiersten (Eric) Johnson, Salem , VA; Amy (fiance, Dan Merchant) Gerlach, Brookings, SD; Matthew Jarabek, Omaha, NE; and Kevin Jarabek, West Fargo, ND; ten great grandchildren: Jacob and Abigail Wagner; Lily Cass; Conner, Samantha and Jessica Gerlach; Alayna and Reece Johnson; and twins, Taiya and Autumn Gerlach.
Lila is survived by a sister-in-law, Virginia Haines, Phoenix, AZ. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George; her son, Ronnie; her husband, Andy; one brother, Johnny Torgerson (and wife, Irene); two sisters, Thora Lien (and husband, Vernon) and Clara Peterson (and husband, Kenneth); brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Steve and Bertha Jarabek, Roy and Emma Jacobson, Ray and Lily Jacobson, and John Haines; and nephews: Elmer Torgerson, Charles Peterson, Steve Haines and Gary Jacobson.
