Obituary

Dr. LeRoy Krause, age 88, of Mitchell, died January 9, 2007 at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, January 12, at the First Lutheran Church in Mitchell. Visitation will be from 5 PM to 8 PM on Thursday at the Will Funeral Chapel with a prayer service at 7 PM. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. LeRoy P. Krause was born July 30, 1918, in Long Beach, California, the son of Anna (Virchow) and Carl Krause. He grew up in Long Beach, Wessington Springs, and Lake Preston, South Dakota. He was a graduate of Lake Preston High School and Dakota Wesleyan University. He earned his DDS degree from Baylor University College of Dentistry and an MSD degree from the University of Missouri. LeRoy served in World War II with the U.S. Army Dental Corps as a dental surgeon at Fort McArthur in San Pedro, California. LeRoy married a high school friend, Janet Plowman, in Long Beach, California, on April 3, 1947. They moved to Mitchell in 1950 where LeRoy was in orthodontic practice until he retired in 1990. He also had an office in Sioux Falls, SD. Active in the Mitchell community and First Lutheran Church, LeRoy was also a charter member of the Sioux Falls Horseless Carriage Club of America and served as president. He restored many antique cars and popcorn wagons. He was a lifetime member of the American Dental Association, Omicrom Kappa Upsilon Honorary Dental Society and American Association of Orthodontists. He was past president of First Lutheran Church where he also served on the Board of Trustees and Board of Deacons. He was a member of the Elks, Moose and Dakota Discovery Museum. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Janet, of Mitchell, and daughter, Karla (and Deen), of Parker, Colorado; also three grandchildren: Jeff (and Kori), Jennifer and Jon, two step-grandchildren, Daniel and Laura, and two great-grandchildren, Chloe and Nicholas, all of Colorado; and a niece. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Ruby and Ruth, a daughter, Mary, and great-grandson, Dylan. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to First Lutheran Church.
