Leonard Sigmund, 82, Custer, formerly of Mitchell, died Tuesday, December 5th in his home east of Custer. Funeral services will be Friday, December 8th at 10 am at the Berean Bible Church in Custer. Funeral services will also be held 2:00 PM Saturday December 9th at the Mitchell Wesleyan Church with burial at Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM Saturday at the Mitchell Wesleyan Church. Leonard was born on December 26, 1923 to Herman and Mary (Stampe) Sigmund. He grew up on the family farm 3/1/2 miles west of Mt. Vernon. He was united in marriage with Caroline Hohn on December 17, 1945. They lived on a farm 6 miles west of Mt. Vernon. In 1946, they moved to the Sigmund family farm and lived there until their retirement in 1989. He moved to Custer after his wifes death in 2001 and lived with his daughter and son-in-law. He was a member of the Berean Bible Church in Custer and served his Lord as a deacon there until his death. Grateful for having shared his life are his one daughter, Sharon Kretschmer and husband, Dick, Custer, SD; one son, Ed Sigmund and wife Vickie, Mt. Vernon, SD; seven grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, one brother Ray Sigmund and wife Francis, Mt. Vernon, SD; two sisters, Irene Hohn, Letcher, SD and Beverly Stemper, San Diego, CA; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and one sister.
