Lennis Sonne, 82, of Huntsville, AL, formerly of Mitchell, SD, passed away on Wednesday, January 22, 2020. A memorial service is scheduled for 11:00 AM, Saturday, March 21, 2020 at Will Funeral Chapel. Burial will be at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in rural Letcher, SD.
Lennis O. Sonne died January 22, 2020 in Huntsville, AL (formerly of Mitchell, SD) . He was born on a farm on Sanborn County on August 28, 1937 to George and Hannah Sonne. He was the fourth child. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in rural Letcher, SD. He graduated from Letcher High School in 1955 and Mechanical school in Fargo, ND.
On June 12, 1960 he was united in marriage with Wilma (Birger). He was employed in many jobs as a mechanic, diary farmer and semitruck driver. He enjoyed overhauling antique cars and going to many car shows receiving many trophies and awards for his showmanship.
Left in his remembrance are his wife and children Linda (Jerry) Bohlmann, Tim (Tisha) Sonne and Debi (Glenn) Martin. Other relatives Thelma O'Donell, Verlene Birger, Phyllis Keiser, Larry (Judy) Birger, Pam (Ron) Martin, David (Barb) Birger, Sherrill Watters, and Douglas Birger. His seven grandchildren are Carson, Alex, Noah (Amanda) Bohlmann, Jeremy (Kelsey) Sonne, Tyler Sonne, Andrew and Tanner Schroeder, 3 step grandsons Nick (Tanya), Zachary, and Austin Martin. And great grandchild Emmet Sonne.
He was preceded in death by parents and inlaws Joseph and Gladys Birger, brothers Gordon and Robert, sister Edel, and grandson Brandon Sonne. Others were Norma Sonne, Paul O'Donenell, Paula O'Donnell, Jake Watters, Steve Sonne, Bill Kieser, Bonnie Birger, Rodney Birger, and Mike Duncan.
In lieu of flowers memorial donation may be directed to the Trinity Cemetery Fund.
