Leland Ralph Walters, age 88, of Letcher, SD died Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at Prairie View Care Center, Woonsocket, SD. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, January 24, 1915 at the Will Funeral Chapel with burial at 1:30 PM Saturday at the Viola Valley Center Cemetery, rural Wessington Springs, SD. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Friday at the Will Funeral Chapel. Leland Ralph Walters, son of Charles and Helena (Brandenburg) Walters, was born July 5, 1926 in rural Jerauld County, SD. He grew up on the family farm and attended the Viola Center Country School, rural Wessington Springs, SD. At the age of eight, he moved with his family to the Letcher area and attended school there. After his schooling, Leland farmed east of Letcher, SD. Leland was united in marriage with Evelyn Morrison on May 26, 1951 in Huron, SD. The couple continued to farm east of Letcher until Leland's retirement. In 2012 he became a resident at Prairie View Care Center in Woonsocket, SD. Leland enjoyed doing taxidermy work, hunting and fishing. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Evelyn Walters, Letcher, SD; four children, LeRoy (Becky) Walters, Mitchell, SD, Marlene Deehardt, Brookings, SD, Mark (Bobbi Jo) Walters, Anaconda, MT, Brian Walters, Letcher, SD; nine grandchildren; two great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Bertha Ottmers and Luella Wood; and a brother, Karl Walters.
