Leland "Lee" Tiede, 87, of Mitchell passed away on Thursday, October 9, 2025 at Avera Brady Health and Rehab in Mitchell. Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM Tuesday, October 14, 2025 at Resurrection Lutheran Church in Mitchell, burial to follow in Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Monday, October 13, 2025 at Will Funeral Chapel.
Leland "Lee" Tiede, son of Arthur and Loretta (Kovarik) Tiede, was born October 4, 1938 in Le Sueur, MN. He grew up on the family farm and attended country school. After his schooling, Lee was employed by an area farmer. He later began working at the creamery in Lisbon, ND. While at the creamery, he met the love of his life, his future wife, Maxine.
Lee was united in marriage with Maxine Hansen on August 21,1960 in Lisbon, ND. The couple made their home in Lisbon where Lee was employed at the Red Owl Grocery Store. He was later transferred to Mitchell, SD to continue his employment at the Red Owl Grocery Store in Mitchell. He later was employed at Sunshine Foods and later at Jack's Campers. Lee retired from Trail King after 18 years of service with the company.
He enjoyed hunting and flea markets. Lee especially enjoyed selling cream separator machines and bulk milk tanks to customers from Central America. Lee truly loved restoring and driving old classic cars. He was an avid Minnesota Twins and Vikings fan.
Grateful for having shared his life are his three children, Darwin (Dorothy) Tiede, Mitchell, SD, Rodney Tiede, Mitchell, SD and Ronda Tiede, Mitchell, SD; two grandchildren, Brent (Elisha) Tiede, Ethan, SD and Brandi (Kyle) Neugebauer, Ethan, SD; four great grandchildren, Kale Neugebauer, Hattie Neugebauer, Colton Tiede and Ashlyn Tiede; a sister, Margie Kuck, Ellendale, ND; a sister-in-law, Sandy Tiede, Englevale, ND; a special friend, Chris McCarty, Mitchell, SD.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine on August 5, 2011; his parents; and a brother, Timothy Tiede; three brothers-in-law, Lars and Herman Hansen and Herbert Kuck; two sisters-in-law, Anita Hansen and Millie Cole; and a special friend, Dee Masker.
