Lela Rose Case, age 93, of Mitchell, SD died Thursday, April 30, 2015 at Avera Brady Health and Rehab. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Thursday, May 7, 2015 at Resurrection Lutheran Church in Mitchell with burial at the American Legion Cemetery. Visitation will be on hour prior to the service at the church. Lela Hutton, daughter of Charles and Blanche (Brewer) Hutton, was born March 7, 1922 on a farm west of Letcher, SD. She attended grade school at the Heljeson School in Sanborn County and graduated from Letcher High School in 1939. Lela attended Notre Dame Jr. College and Dakota Wesleyan University, graduating in 1962. Lela taught school for several years in Sanborn and Aurora County, Letcher, Ethan and Mitchell for 27 years. She retired in 1984. Lela was united in marriage with Tom (Merlin) Case on February 2, 1943 in Washington State. The couple spent their married years in Letcher and Mitchell. Lela truly enjoyed children and enjoyed seeing them excel in school. She also enjoyed sewing, bowling, dancing, doing puzzles and playing cards. Tom and Lela spent 19 years in Arizona and met many truly great friends. Grateful for having shared her life are her four children, Myrna (Dick) Vermeulen, Sioux Falls, SD, Connie Earley, deceased and her friend, Jerry Moody, Woonsocket, SD, Penny (Larry) Hohn, Mitchell, SD, Dean Case, Mitchell, SD; 14 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; nine step great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren and three step great great grandchild; and a brother-in-law, Jack (Doris) Case, Mitchell, SD. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Case; a daughter, Connie Earley; her parents; one great grandchild, Gage Priebe; two brothers, Wayne and Dale Hutton; and four sisters, Edna Knutson, Faye Cypert, Hope Farber and Dessie Smith; and several nieces and nephews.
