Lawrence McCabe, age 75 of Mitchell died Thursday July 27, 2006 at Avera Prince of Peace Retirement in Sioux Falls after a courageous battle with cancer. Funeral service will be 10:30 AM Tuesday, August 1, 2006 at the Will Funeral Chapel with burial to follow at the Servicemens Memorial Cemetery in Mitchell. Visitation will start one hour prior at 9:30 AM at Will Funeral Chapel. He was born May 18, 1931, in Chicago, Illinois to Raymond and Anna (OConnor) McCabe. He served in the US Army as part of the US Occupation forces in Germany. H lived and worked in Chicago for many years before he moved in to Mitchell in 1977. He was loved and admired by his family and friends for his warm, welcoming kindness, delightful sense of humor and sharp wit. Those who were lucky enough to know him will always remember his unique talent for storytelling. He leaves behind his friends and family better people for having known and loved him, sisters Margie Clark and Fran Ippolito of Michigan; nephew Kevin Clark of Mitchell; nieces Karen Wasson and Kim Baker; 3 great nieces and one great nephew, all of Michigan. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Kenneth and Mark; and a brother-in-law, Peter Ippolito.
