LaVerne "Bill Hedblom, age 89, of Mitchell, SD, formerly Aberdeen passed away at his home on August 5, 2020.
LaVerne "Bill" Hedblom son of William and Gladys Hedblom Ashmore was born on January 24, 1931 in Aberdeen, SD. LaVerne or Bill as he was known by friends and family, upon his mother's death in 1934 was raised by his maternal grandparents, Peter and Hannah Hedblom, in the Aberdeen/Columbia SD area. He graduated from Aberdeen Central High School in 1949. He enlisted in the United States Air Force after high school and was honorably discharged at the rank of Staff Sargent. He then attended Northern State College Graduating with a degree in Business Administration.
In 1953 he married Marilyn Aisenbrey in Liberty Texas. They traveled to various military assignments in the US until his discharge. They had three daughters.
LaVerne worked for various petroleum companies as an account representative throughout his professional career. After he retired from sales he worked for Avera as a courier, finally retiring in 2014.
LaVerne's favorite pastime was spending time at his cabin at Tacoma Park, SD entertaining friends and family. He was known for his entertaining Fourth of July celebrations still fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews. He enjoyed hosting bus tours and hunting excursions when employed by Farmland Industries. LaVerne was also fondly known as, THE Doorman at Mitchell Area Community Theatre. He was always welcoming theatre-goers with a smile and a joke
He is survived by his wife Marilyn and two daughters; Terri (Al) Jacklin, and Peggi Lee (Brian) Badten of Aberdeen, five grandchildren; Krystyna (Christopher) Donahue, Ryan (Abigail) Badten, Alaina (Jeremy) Wellnitz, Tyler Badten and Paris Koller. Six great -grandchildren; Ella, Griffin, Benjamin, Ewan, Henry and Grady, one sister-in-law; Annette (Richard) Swanberg and one brother-in-law; Bruce Aisenbrey. He will be fondly remembered by his nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and one daughter, Kristi Hedblom.
There will be a private life celebration at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorial to the Mitchell Area Community Theatre.
