LaVerna L. Kreth, age 87, of Mt. Vernon, died November 13, 2006 at the Avera Brady Health and Rehab. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, November 15, at St. Johns Lutheran Church, rural Dimock. with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 PM Tuesday at the Will Funeral Chapel with a 7 PM prayer service. LaVerna was born April 28, 1919, at rural Corsica, SD on the family farm to Wilhelm and Martha (Sperlich) Geidel. She attended country school in rural Corsica and was confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church. She helped on the family farm milking cows and was a caregiver to relatives and their new born infants. Laverna married LuVern Kreth on June 10, 1951, at rural Dimock, SD. The couple made their home on a farm south of Mt. Vernon, SD. LaVerna was active on the farm until June of 2006. She was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church, and was involved in quilt making at the church. She enjoyed crotcheting, baking and cooking, gardening, canning, and sewing. She was known for making her Sunday dinner of duck and dumplings. She is survived by her husband, LuVern, of Mt. Vernon; four children: Jerilyn Muntefering and husband, Floyd, of Parkston, Carol Johnson and husband, Kevin, of Mt. Vernon, Joyce Ackman and husband, Robin, of Mitchell and Daryl Kreth, of Mt. Vernon; twelve grandchildren, five great grandchildren; one brother, Harold Geidel, of Corsica, one sister, Eileen Moke, of Mitchell and a brother-in-law, Alvin Hohn of Mt. Vernon. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Edna Hohn and a brother-in-law, Walter Moke.
