Larry Fred Dey, son of Fred and Marjorie (Warnke) Dey, was born June 25, 1943 in Plankinton, SD. He grew up on the   family farm and attended country school. Larry graduated from Lane High School in 1961. After his schooling, Larry farmed in the Wessington Springs area for 57 years. He served in the SD National Guard from 1962 to 1968.

He was united in marriage with Elizabeth "Liz" Holeton in Wessington Springs, SD.

He enjoyed raising his black angus cattle, hunting, and fishing. Larry loved horses and used them to help work his cattle. Larry was passionate about going to rodeos; he would travel all over the state to watch them during the spring and summer months.  During the fall he would attend his grandkids ball games, the DWU ball games and all the games at the Corn   Palace.     Everywhere Larry went he carried a purple bag full of Tootsie pops.  Coaches, fans, students, players and people of all ages would see Larry with that purple bag and come get a  sucker from him.

He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and the American Legion, both in Wessington Springs.

Grateful for having shared his life are his three children, Scott (Tami) Dey, Mitchell, SD, Lisa Ham, Gainsville, MO, Sara (Pat) Schut, Chester, SD; nine grandchildren, Joni, Cassi, Lindsi, Riley, Josie, Zander, Alexandria, Avery and Brayden; five great grandchildren; two sisters, Donna (Doyle) Arborgast, Omaha, NE and Sharon Cutler, Sioux Falls, SD, as wellas numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Dennis Dey; a sister, Carol Ann Marschner; and a brother-in-law,  Richard Cutler.
