Madison, IA. He graduated from Ft. Madison High School, where he sang in the choir, played football and wrestled. He attended Northwestern College, IA for two years. While at Northwestern, he was "adopted" by the Heemstra family. In 1988, Kevin enlisted in the Navy. He was in the Navy from 88-92 and was a radioman on a nuclear submarine. After his time in the Navy, he returned to NW Iowa and worked as a vet tech at Nobl Labs, where he met Kim. Kevin and Kim were married in 1997 in Rock Valley, IA. During the next four years they adopted four daughters. Kevin felt the call to ministry in 2001 and graduated from Sioux Falls Seminary in 2004. Kevin served Reformed (RCA) churches in Sheldon, IA, Sibley, IA, Ellsworth, MI, and Mitchell, SD. Kevin loved sports. He loved playing sports, watching sports (especially the Packers and Hawkeyes), coaching sports, and officiating sports. It was a coach in junior high who first invited Kevin to church and that had a huge impact in his life. He sought to connect with youth in the same way. He especially loved coaching and watching his kids' sporting events. Most of all, Kevin loved his Lord and Savior. His faith permeated his relationships, conversations and actions. He served God's church faithfully from the pulpit and behind the scenes. His deepest desire was sharing Christ with those who crossed his path or came through his office. Thankful for having shared his life are his wife Kim; daughters: Savanna (Josh) Altstiel, Sioux Falls, SD, Jessica, Emily, Katelyn and Callie Karhoff; sons: Kobie and Joseph Karhoff. He was also loved by his "adopted" family; his parents, Larry and Lois Heemstra , Primghar, IA; brothers: Jerry (Janet) Heemstra, Tumwater, WA, Dennis (Lori) Heemstra, Primghar, IA, Greg (Pat) Heemstra, Rock Valley, IA, Jerad (Terina) DeVos, Paullina, IA, Arthur (Pam) DeVos, Bridgeport, NE; sister: Heather (Colin) Youde, Remsen, IA, and 17 nieces and nephews.
