Obituary

F. (Finis) Keith Nash, 74, Shawnee, Kansas, formerly of Alexandria, died August 6 in Shawnee. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, in Shawnee. Visitation will be held on Wednesday at St. Mary of Mercy Catholic Church in Alexandria. Graveside rites will be held at St. Mary of Mercy Catholic Cemetery at 10:00 AM on Thursday under the direction of the Will Funeral Chapel. Keith was born November 16, 1929 in Atlanta, Missouri to Herman and Iva May (Baker) Nash. After graduating from Macon High School in 1947, he joined the US Navy, serving on the USS Laffey in Guam. His Navy career spanned over 20 combined years of active and reserve duty. Keith worked for the Kansas City Southern and the Burlington Northern Railroads. After nearly 35 years of service, he retired as an engineer in 1990 from Burlington Northern. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers, the Retired Enlisted Association and the USS Laffey Association as he was a proud Tin Can Sailor. Keith raised his family on 20 acres in Tonganoxie, Kansas. He also owned the 400 acre Valley View Dairy Farm in Alexandria, South Dakota. He is survived by his wife, Jeanne, Shawnee, KS; children, Venita Rae Nash, Billings, MT; Major Joseph Nash and wife, Gwen, Brownsville, TX; Janice Robertson, and husband, Mike, Southbank, BC; Brian Nash and wife, Sue, Warsaw, MO; Beth Anne Winne and husband, Michael, Shawnee, KS; and Amelda Self and husband, Chris, Smithville, MO; three granddaughters: Evelyn Nash, Heather Winne and Alexandria: sisters: Genevieve Shearon, Excello, MO; Barbara Griep, Little Rock, AR; step-children: Cheryl Miiller, and husband, Darwin, Salem, SD; Greg Lyman and wife, Tammy, Las Vegas and Pam Gillis, Shawnee, KS; 6 step grandchildren and step great grandson. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 40 years, Rosemary (Schmitt) Nash, sisters, Alma Catrall, Darlene Price, and brother, Gail. In lieu of flowers, donations many be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Foundation for the Blind.
