Karen Totton, 76, passed away Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at Firesteel Health Care in Mitchell. A memorial service will be at 2:00 PM Wednesday, April 19, 2023 at Will Funeral Chapel. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Tuesday, April 18, 2023 at Will Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in St. Scholastica's Catholic Cemetery in Letcher. Wanda Totton will be laid to rest at this time with her mother, Karen.

Karen was born February 17, 1947 in Gregory, SD to Louie and Helen (Halva) Kobold. She attended school at Dixon Country school before attending Mitchell Votec (now Mitchell Technical College) for medical lab technician.  Karen married Sterling Totton in 1961 and together they raised five children. Karen did farm work prior to her marriage and continued to do so while she was married. In the early 70's Karen became a dispatcher and meter maid for the Mitchell Police Department. She later worked at the Methodist Hospital as a lab technician, Firesteel Health Care as a CNA, Toshiba, before her final job at Dakota Pork Industry.

To say Karen loved animals and helping people would be a vast understatement. Karen went out of her way to take in or assist any kind of animal or person; she was willing to do without for herself if it meant she would be providing food, a safe place or love to anything or anyone in need. She also had a love for music and played bass in a band.

Survived by Karen are her children, Tamara Totton, Kimberly (Luther) Smith, Lanita (Lynn) Gregerson, Joey Totton as well as many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, parents, daughter, Wanda Totton, brother Donald Kobold and her long-time partner, Dwight D. Deter.
