Juliann Marie Haiar, age 94, of Marion, SD (formerly of Alexandria, SD) died Friday, December 26, 2025 at the Tieszen Memorial Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM Saturday, January 3, 2026 at St. Mary of Mercy Catholic Church with burial at St. Mary of Mercy Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Friday, January 2, 2026 at the Will Funeral Chapel with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 PM.

Juliann Marie (Kline) Haiar, daughter of Walter and Elizabeth (Stephan) Kline, was born September 29, 1931 on a farm south of Leola, SD. She attended a one room country grade school for 8 years, later graduating from Leola High School in 1949. After graduation she went to Aberdeen, SD and became a legal secretary for four years for the Law Firm of P.J. Maloney in Aberdeen, SD.

Juliann was untied in marriage with Wilbur Haiar on October 5, 1953 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Aberdeen, SD. They farmed for 16 years living west of Farmer, SD where they raised four children. In February 1970 they moved to Alexandria, SD. She was employed for Hanson County as Secretary for the Director of Equalization for 26 years. Juliann retired in December of 1999. She enjoyed meeting people, writing letters and welcoming friends into her home with pie and coffee.

She was a home maker and helped out with grandchildren whenever possible.

In 2014 she and Wilbur moved to Marion, SD and lived in an apartment.

While in Alexandria, she was a member of St. Mary of Mercy Catholic Church, and was secretary for many years for the altar society. She was a 50 year member of the American Legion Auxiliary and helped with various functions.

Juliann enjoyed traveling, shopping, playing cards and meeting people.

Grateful for having shared her life are her children, Dr. David (Cindy) Haiar, Marion, SD, Loren (Lisa) Haiar, Sioux Falls, SD; a daughter-in-law, Marilyn Haiar, Sioux Falls, SD; ten grandchildren; four great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband on August 30, 2018; her parents; a daughter, Laura Haiar; a son, Daniel Haiar; four siblings, Loretta Dylla, Rita Zulk, Leonard Kline and Leo Kline.
