Julia M. Schoenfelder, 93, of Mitchell, died August 22, 2004 at the Avera Queen of Peace Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, at the Holy Family Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 6-8 PM Wednesday at the Will Funeral Chapel with a scripture reading at 7 PM. Burial will be in the Mt. Vernon Cemetery. Julia was born January 19, 1911 in Cottonwood, SD to William and Johanna (Herrmann) Kaus. When she was a baby, she moved with her family by covered wagon to Stickney, where her family homesteaded. She attended Pleasant Lake Consolidated School. She married Engelbert Schoenfelder at Stickney on November 12, 1936. They lived at Dimock for five years and moved to Mt. Vernon where they lived until February, 1963, when they retired and moved to Mitchell. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, the Altar Society, and was a former member of St. Michaels Catholic Church in Mt. Vernon. Julia is survived by her children: Darlene Goldammer and husband, Harold, of Mitchell; Shirley Albrecht and husband, Jerry of Tripp; Clet and wife, Linda; Willard and wife, Kay, all of Mitchell; daughter-in-law, Donna Schoenfelder of Mt. Vernon; twenty-five grandchildren, forty great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren; sisters, Dorothy Schroeder, of Stickney and Cel Vander Heiden of Sioux Falls. She was preceded in death by her husband, on August 15, 1985; two sons, Robert and LeRoy, a son-in-law, Gerald Maeschen, six brothers and four sisters.
