Joyce Hasseler age 95, of Canby, OR (formerly of Corsica, SD) died Friday, May 10, 2019 at Countryside Living in Canby, OR. Her memorial service will be 2:00 PM Saturday, May 25, 2019 at Bethany Evangelical Church in Canby, OR. The committal will be 2:00 PM Friday, May 31, 2019 at Graceland Cemetery in Corsica, SD. Joyce (Bordewyk) Hasseler, daughter of Marinus and Rolena (Stadt) Bordewyk, was born July 3, 1923 in Corsica, SD. In 1944, Joyce went to Bellingham during World War II and was "Rosie the Riveter". In 1946 she received her teaching certificate from Southern Normal Teacher College. Joyce taught in three country schools.

She was united in marriage with Ben Hasseler in 1953. The couple made their home in Armour, SD.  From this marriage they were blessed with two children, Jane Hasseler and Steve Hasseler.

Joyce was very involved in her church and supported the Pro-Life movement. She loved to crochet, sing, cook, and spend time with friends and family. She was a special lady and will be greatly missed.

Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Ben Hasseler; a daughter, Jane (Neil) Wilson; a son, Steve Hasseler; two granddaughters, Andrea Wilson and Sarah Wilson Cullerton; and a sister, Arlene Plooster.

She was preceded in death by her son, Steve Hasseler; her parents; her siblings. Lucille De Boer, Hermina Hoekman, Arthur Bordewyk, Geneva Walker and Kathryn Stredronsky.
