Joy M. Pickett age 82, formerly of Mitchell, died Monday, July 25, 2011 at the Wakonda Heritage Manor in Wakonda, SD. Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Wednesday, August 3 at the Will Funeral Chapel. Burial will be at the Oakwood Cemetery in Rochester, MN at 11:00 AM Saturday, August 6. Visitation will begin 2 hours prior to the funeral service at 11:00AM at Will Funeral Chapel. Joy was born September 15, 1928 at Chatfield, MN, the daughter of Ralph and Bernice Pickett. In 1944 the family moved to Rochester, MN where Joy graduated from high school in 1946. She was then employed at the Rochester Junior College for several years before going into evangelistic work, where she spent a number of years both in South Dakota and Nebraska. In 1982, when she could no longer continue in that work, she returned to office work and became a state employee at Pierre. In 1995 she retired and moved to Mitchell where she continued to reside. She is survived by a step-brother Richard and wife Verlaine Weiland, Coon Rapids, MN; two step-sisters, Ruther Swanson, Phoenix, AZ and Betty and husband Roy Droel, Moundsview, MN. Other survivors include several cousins and step-nieces and nephews.
