Joseph "Jack" Toman, age 79, of Mitchell, SD died Friday, April 28, 2017 at his home under hospice care. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM Friday May 5, 2017 at Holy Family Catholic Church with burial and military rites at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM Thursday, May 4, 2017 at the Will Funeral Chapel with a prayer service followed by a rosary beginning at 7:00 PM.
Jack Toman, son of Clarence and Dorothy (Bailey) Toman, was born July 30, 1937 in Mitchell, SD. He grew up in Mitchell and attended Catholic School. Jack graduated from Notre Dame High School before entering the US Army. Jack was honorably discharged and returned to Mitchell and the family business.
Jack was united in marriage with Eileen Mentele on May 8, 1961 in Epiphany, SD. The couple made their home in Mitchell. He continued working with his father at Toman Produce until the late 1980's. Jack then was employed as a Moorman's Feed Salesman for a short time. He then was employed at Shopko until his retirement in 2002, due to his Parkinson Disease.
He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and the Moose Lodge. Jack was a former member of the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of United Commercial Travelers.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Eileen Toman, Mitchell, SD; five children, Jackie Toman, Lincoln, NE, Brad (Laura) Toman, Lake in the Hills, IL, Bryan (Phyllis) Toman, Mitchell, SD, David (Glenda Bland) Toman, Tybee Island, GA; Janel Toman, Lincoln, NE; five grandchildren, Heather Toman, Kathryn Toman, Halley Gaucher, Justin Toman and Jacob Toman; two great grandchildren; Camron and Kirsten Toman; six siblings, Jerry (Carol) Toman, St. Augustine, FL, Bill Toman, Suffolk, VA, Donna (Tom) Taylor, Newsport News, VA, Diane (Chip) Cole, Emmet, NE, Dan (Janelle) Toman, Pierre, SD, Debra (Scott) Kuehl, Sioux City, IA; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Parkinson's Research Foundation.
