Joseph Joe Sellner age 82, of Mitchell, died Thursday, July 2, 2009 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, July 7, 2009 at the Will Funeral Chapel with visitation one hour prior to the services. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Mitchell.
Joseph Joe Sellner, son of John and Mary (Schlegel) Sellner, was born May 27, 1927 in Sleepy Eye, MN. He grew up and received his education in Sleepy Eye and Levenworth, MN. After his schooling, Joe helped on the family farm.
Joe was united in marriage with Betty Brunz on February 18, 1952 in Mankato, MN. The couple made their home on a farm near Searles, MN. Later the couple bought a farm and farmed near New Ulm, MN. Joe was then employed at AMPI Butter Plant as a fork lift operator for 25 years. Joe then was employed at Coborns Grocery Store in New Ulm. They moved to Mitchell, SD in 2003. While in Mitchell, he was employed at Super Wash Car Wash and Menards.
He enjoyed calf roping, bull dogging, training and showing horses in earlier years. Joe also enjoyed watching sporting events on tv and listening to polka music. He was a member of Quarter Horse Association, the Arabian Horse Association and the New Ulm Saddle Club.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Betty Sellner, Mitchell, SD; and a sister, Loretta Blazing, Rochester, MN.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; and three sisters.
