John Thompson, 88, of Mitchell, died Saturday, January 3, 2009, at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital in Mitchell. A Memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of the Will Funeral Chapel.

John Franklin Thompson was born September 11, 1920 to Elmer and Mary (Campbell) Thompson in Platte, SD. He grew up and attended country school near Platte until the 8th grade. John then worked as a farm hand near Bonsteel, SD. He then moved to North Carolina where he worked in a Furniture Factory for many years. He moved to Mitchell in the late 1990s where he moved into Cathedral Squares Apartments before moving to Firesteel Healthcare Center.

John enjoyed spending time outdoors and especially mowing lawns in the summer time.

He is Survived by numerous nieces and nephews and is preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, Ada Buck, Vivian Himmirich, Delma Earl, Ruth Brogen; and a bother Albert Thompson.
