John C. Muilenburg, age 85, of Rapid City, formerly of Alexandria, died Friday June 18, 2004 at Fountain Springs Health Care Center in Rapid City. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, June 23 at the Will Funeral Chapel in Mitchell. Visitation will be Tuesday 6-8 PM at Will Funeral Chapel with burial in Green Hill Cemetery, Alexandria, with military honors. John was born March 21, 1919, in Aurora SD to Cornelius and Charlotte (Mills) Muilenburg. At age two, they moved to rural Hanson County where he attended school. He graduated from Alexandria High School. John joined the US Army in 1941, where he served as a master sergeant with the division engineers in the South Pacific. He was honorably discharged in 1945. He married Geraldine Lassegard on December 29, 1945, at Sioux Falls. He lived and farmed north of Alexandria for 56 years. In 2001, he moved to the Echo Ridge Retirement Home in Rapid City. He is survived by his children: John and wife Pat, Rapid City, Tom of Alexandria, Mark and wife Rita, Rapid City, Diane Muilenburg, Rapid City, Susanne and husband David Dennis of Keystone SD; Jason and wife Missy, Alexandria, seventeen grandchildren and five great grandchildren and one sister Phyllis. He is preceded in death by his wife Geraldine of 47 years; his parents, brother, Robert and sister, Helen. In lieu of flowers memorial may be directed to the family.
