Joan Usher passed away Thursday, January 09, 2025 at Firesteel Healthcare. Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Friday, January 24 , 2025 at the Downtown Mitchell First United Methodist Church, Mitchell, SD. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will take place at 1:00 PM Monday, January 27, 2025 at Union Cemetery in Pomeroy, IA. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to the Downtown United Methodist Church.

Joan was born October 30, 1932 to Henry and Marjorie (Lewis) Albrecht in Pomeroy, IA. She graduated from Pomeroy High School and then Morningside College in 1953. She was united in marriage with Carroll Usher on November 22, 1953 in Pomeroy, IA.

Joan had various teaching positions and was often the choir director at the churches she and Carroll, a Methodist pastor, served. The couple called eight different churches home over the years. After retirement they moved to Manson, IA. Following Carroll's passing in 2000, she moved to Mitchell, SD in 2004.

She loved spending time with family, traveling, playing iPad games, reading, and music. Joan led many small group book and bible studies. She was a member of Downtown First United United Methodist Church and Chapter J PEO in Mitchell.

Grateful for having shared her life are her children, Brian (Phyllis) Usher, Colorado Springs, CO; Bruce (Chris) Usher, Scottsdale, AZ; Becky (Craig) Moore, Mitchell, SD; Tom (Ann) Usher, Medina, OH; ten grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, thirteen step-great-grandchildren, four step-great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, in-laws and sister, Linda.
