Joan Lorraine Hauge's Obituary
Born August 15, 1927, Joan was raised by her parents, Christ and Verbena Johnson in Avon, SD. She graduated from high school and married Kenneth M. Hauge September 5, 1946. They were married almost 60 years when Kenny passed away in March of 2006.
After marriage they purchased the telephone company in Kennebec, SD and operated it for two years before purchasing the telephone company in Alexandria SD in 1948. They owned and operated the Hanson Co. Telephone Company and eventually TLC Cable Television until it was sold in 1993.
Joan was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She had a generous heart and gave willingly of her resources and time to all who needed her. Joan was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Alexandria and served in many ways, including holding several leadership positions in the United Methodist Women on local, district levels.
She was a devoted member of the Eastern Star, Celestial Lodge #37 all her life. Joan was a beloved member of the community and devoted friend and confidant to many. She will be dearly missed.
Joan is survived by her daughter, Loretta (Benjamin) Walker, Portland, Texas; sons, K.C. Hauge of Alexandria, SD, and Chris (Alice) Hauge, of Dallas, Texas; twelve grandchildren: Leah (David) McWhinnie, Lisa Muilenburg, Lani (Kenneth) Archer, Lynette (Azubuike) Wachuku, Robert Muilenburg, Misty Kolbrek, Megan Denman, Sara (Travis) Bartunek, Seth (Tina) Hauge, Max (Katrina) Hauge, Marie (Micheal) Mickelson, Lee Hauge. Nineteen great-grandchildren: Aiden and Emily McWhinnie; Alexandria and Christopher Archer; Faith Wachuku; Samantha Muilenburg; Mekayla Kolbrek, Lexxus Wessells, Ryker and Walker Mathers; Kaylene Hartman; Chloe, Sunny, William, and Logan Bartunek; Ellie and Mason Hauge; Connor Degen.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the Children's Home Society of SD.
