Jessie Lorraine Garness, age 93, of Mitchell, SD died Thursday, November 27, 2025 at her home under hospice care. Celebration of Life will be from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM Saturday, December 13, 2025 at the Moose Lodge in Mitchell, SD. Burial will be at the American Legion Cemetery at a later date.

Jessie Lorraine (Bucholz) Garness, daughter of Lloyd and Marie (Peterson) Jones was born February 17, 1932 in Fedora, SD. She grew up on the family farm and attended country school. Jessie graduated from Fedora High School and later moved to Madison where she received her teaching certificate. Jessie taught country school for two years.

Jessie was united in marriage with Robert Gene Bucholz in 1953. The couple lived in Virginia where Robert was stationed in the US Navy. After Jessie and Robert divorced, she made her home in Howard, SD.

Jessie was united in marriage with Roger Garness in 1961. The couple lived in Carthage, SD until in 1969 they moved to a farm near Letcher, SD. They later moved to a home south of Mitchell and then in 1971 into Mitchell.

Jessie was a lifetime member of the James Valley Community Center. She enjoyed bingo, painting, reading and playing cards and pool. Jessie truly loved spending time with her family.

Grateful for having shared her life are her children, David (Kris) Bucholz, Anoka, MN, Dennis (Laurie) Bucholz, Ft. Myer, FL, Robert (Blanca) Bucholz, Mitchell, SD, Randy Bucholz, Mitchell, SD, Bret (Janna) Garness, Phoenix, AZ, Vanessa Garness, Illinois; 21 grandchildren; 37 great grandchildren; 19 great great grandchildren; a brother, Larry Jones, Madison, SD and a sister-in-law, Jeanette Jones, Mitchell, SD.

She was preceded in death by her two husbands; two grandsons, Rickie and Garrett; and eight siblings, Paul Jones, Rita Nokes, Marjorie Magnuson, Glenn Jones, Jack Jones, Karen Bunker, Don Jones and David Jones.
