Jeanne Storla, age 85, of Mitchell, SD (formerly of Mt. Vernon, SD) died Wednesday November 25, 2009 at her home. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Monday at Salem Lutheran Church with burial at Mt. Vernon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 PM Sunday at the Will Funeral Chapel.
Jeanne Parker, daughter of Conard and Ethel (Slagle) Parker, was born November 23, 1924 in rural Mitchell, SD. She attended Grant, Roosevelt and Mitchell High School. Jeanne moved with her family to Michigan City, ID in 1942 and was employed at Kingsbury Ordinance Plant during World War II.
She was united in marriage with Orin Raymond Storla on November 19, 1945 at First Lutheran Church in Mitchell, SD. The couple farmed near Mt. Vernon until they moved to Mitchell late in 1997.
Jeanne worked at JC Penney, the Methodist Hospital, Franks Clothing and Dry Goods in Parkston and RGIS Inventory Specialists. She also worked at Cooleys Grocery and Hardware in Mt. Vernon, Truck Haven Caf, Browers Office and Equipment and Trail King Industries in Mitchell and Storla Nursing Home in Storla, SD.
She was a member of Salem Lutheran Church, the Ladies Aide, the American Legion Auxiliary and Busy Dozen Club in Mt. Vernon.
Grateful for having shared her life are her three daughters, Judi Mueller and her husband, Ron, Sioux Falls, SD, Elaine Keech and her husband, Dick, Omaha, NE, Karen ODonnell and her husband, Marty, Grayslake, IL; five grandchildren, Ric Mueller, Jackie (Shane) Garden, Heidi (John) Sharp, Troy Costlow and Erik Costlow; six great grandchildren, Olivia, Madeline, Sarah and Alice Sharp, Justin and Abigail Garden; a brother, Conard Parker and his wife, Marilyn, Waukegan, IL; many cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Orin on February 22, 2000; her parents; two sisters, Dorothy Timm and Meribeth Steinheiser.
